When we think about getting out of town, our immediate go-to destination (when we can) is St. Barths. In fact, it’s where we came up with the idea for KoMocean. In the middle of a sun-filled afternoon in St. Barths, the sky opened up and it started to downpour (not uncommon). Everyone made a mad dash for cover and, in an instant, the restaurants and cafes filled up (what better way to wait out a passing shower than with a drink in hand?). We looked around and noticed that all the women looked stunning, wearing beautiful kaftans and coverups that were totally appropriate, while the men were in these brazen (damp) swim trunks with loud patterns and wrinkled t-shirts. And so the idea of men’s swimwear that could be worn at the marina but also to cocktail hour was born and we started designing swim trunks that were both practical and stylish.
But that’s just part of our story in St. Barths. The rest is all about eating, drinking, time with friends and enjoying being away from the office and in the ocean. Here are some of our favorite things to do:
1. You’d be missing out if you didn’t make it a point to get some delicious Creole cuisine in St. Barths. One of our absolute must-order dishes is “accras”, small deep-fried cod fritters. We especially love them at Grain de Sel, just off the beach from Saline.
2. Jet skiing. So some people prefer boats, but if we’re being honest, we only enjoy them when there’s a captain or skipper on board that isn’t one of us. Instead, we love the freedom of grabbing a jet ski and going. very. fast. Easily rent one from Motor Yachts.
3. There’s a reason Ans du Grand Colombier was rated one of the world’s best beaches by Conde Nast Traveller. And I quote, “The water has a lagoon-like stillness about it and the curve of white sand is an excellent place to spend a day.” I mean, what else can you ask for?
